Atlantic City | New casino will be beach themed

ac casinos

That makes sense I guess.  If you’re going to have a casino on the beach, you might as well make it beach themed.  Or even better, “beach house” themed.

In this , Pinnacle Entertainment discussed their plans for their yet unnamed $1.5 to $2.0 billion Atlantic City resort casino that has been on hold since February because of the, yep you guessed it, credit crisis.  (more…)

Atlantic City | Borgata’s Water Club Opens

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

If youve been reading this blog for a while, you’ve probably figured out that Atlantic City is not one of my favorite places. However, I really did love the Borgata that MGM Mirage and Boyd Gaming built a few years ago, and now it looks like they’ve hit another home run with their Water Club, which is a sister hotel to the Borgata.

Usually I like to attach a bunch of pictures and videos of new openings, but the Press of Atlantic City beat me to it, so here it is.  But, I cant resist providing at least one video:

Atlantic City | Margaritaville casino coming

margarittaville casino hotel resort atlantic city

I try to cover mostly the new, exciting casinos and markets, so I debated on whether or not to include this one.  Is an old casino in a declining market new if it gets bought and rebranded.  I spent way too much time thinking about this, so figured I’d include it.

Trump, which owns three casinos in Atlantic City, decided to sell its Trump Marina casino to help the parent company try and stay afloat.

A burst of recent articles on Atlantic City I thought worth mentioning:

Atlantic City | Pinnacle’s plan for A.C.

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Call this Pinnacle part II. Here is the company’s update on the $1.5 to 2.0 billion casino project they hope to build in A.C.:

“Frankly, we’ll see if it even makes sense to go ahead in Atlantic City,” Lee said in a conference call to discuss first-quarter earnings. He said that determination is still a year or two from having to be made. (more…)

Atlantic City | Casino BUST

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

By now everyone has seen that the historic (if casinos can be historic) Tropicana has gone bankrupt.  Let this be a reminder that not all casinos BOOM.  Some actually go BUST.

The Tropicana is still making money, but its problem is that it is unable to service the interest payments on its massive debt load.  Dont worry (unless you’re the owner!), the bankruptcy court will help restructure the company’s debt, and the Tropicana will be back to new.  Ok, not new.  Not even close to new.  But at least in working condition.

When casino revenues drop from a soft economy, smoking bans, and new competition, the last thing you want is too much debt.  That was the Trop AC’s problem.  Its gaming revenue dropped 15% through the first quarter of 2008 (on top of an ugly 2007).    (more…)

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Atlantic CityWhats this? Another hotel without a casino? Just a few days ago I wrote about this happening in Vegas, and now AC. This one is combining two old hotels on the boardwalk to form a new 330 room boutique hotel called The Chelsea. Also, its being done by one of the two guys from the Atlantic Beach Resort and Casino I mentioned a few days ago. (more…)

Atlantic City | Atlantic Beach Resort & Casino

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

The more the merrier. Thats my opinion when it comes to Atlantic City. More hotels, more convention and conference space, more shopping, more restaurants and nightclubs, and more casinos. AC will never be Vegas, but the more it tries the better off it will be.

A casino development group that has been quiet about its plans wants to build a $1.5 billion to $2 billion megaresort highlighted by an array of nongaming attractions and the tallest building in Atlantic City’s bulging skyline. (more…)

More land in AC could be zoned for gaming

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

new atlantic city casinosThere’s been alot of talk in AC over the years, but things move slow. As if Bader Field didnt have enough potential to reshape the city, a new plot of land is being discussed. Here are a few snippets from an article that should be read:

City officials shaping the resort’s new master plan are considering a recommendation to designate a large section of land for casino development, potentially bolstering a Marina District already bulging with plans for more gaming activity. (more…)
