Jamaica | Pro gaming newspaper editorial

Editorial hoping that Prime Minister Golding keeps his promise to bring casino legalization to Parliament before the end of November.

Quote:

Indeed, Mr Golding has noted that at least two major developments on Jamaica’s north shore are, to a substantial degree, predicated on the availability of casino gaming. One is the US$5 billion Harmony Cove resort development in Trelawny for which the selected (more…)

Here is the company’s press release detailing the plans for their casino hotel in Jamaica:

Prime Minister Golding announced yesterday in Parliament that his Government has entered into an agreement with the developers of The Palmyra Resort & Spa at Rose Hall to construct the island’s first casino hotel.

The proposed US$1.8 billion, 4-5 star Resort & Casino is situated in Rose Hall, St. James directly across the street from three championship golf courses on the island of Jamaica. Jamaica | Who wouldn’t ask for a casino?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I would expect much more of this over the coming months.

One local hotelier has expressed an interest in applying for a casino licence, the Business Observer has learnt. However the hotelier, tourism sources say, does not have the required 1,000 rooms, even though he has the US$1.5 billion which the government requires for investment.

If you dont have enough rooms to qualify, why not build more? You have a brand, beachfront property, and existing customers, so why not try and partner up with a larger company to try and raise money to do an expansion that would qualify you for a casino license? (more…)

Jamaica | Harmony Cove Casino

When I wrote about Palmyra Resort & Spa getting a casino license, it looks like I missed that Harmony Cove in Jamaica would also be granted a casino license under the Prime Minister’s Proposal.

Harmony Cove was already in the process of developing a large resort complex in Jamaica. Harmony Cove’s website says, “Tavistock Group has set out to create a new luxury resort with several hotels, three championship golf courses, mega-yacht marina, gaming lounge and other first class leisure amenities on 2,300 oceanfront acres located just 30 minutes from Montego Bay and Ocho Rios in Trelawny Parish.”  (more…)

Jamaica | Gov’t press release on casino legalization

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, has said the Government has taken the decision to permit the licensing of casinos in Jamaica and has already approved proposals for a major new investment predicated on the granting of a casino licence.

The Prime Minister, who was making his contribution to the 2008/09 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives April 22, said the decision was based on a review of the issues surrounding casino gambling.

Mr. Golding explained that applications for casino licences, however, will only be  (more…)

Jamaica | Palmyra Resort Resort casino

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

As I mentioned a few days ago, Jamaica has given the OK for new multi billion casino resorts. Currently there are slot machines in Jamaica, but not table games, and certainly nothing like we what we’re about to see. The requirements for a casino license are:

that applications for casino licenceswill only be considered if certain conditions are met. These are: a minimum investment of US$1.5 billion and the (more…)

jamaica casino

It looks like Jamaica might be moving toward its first casino, and its not fiddling around. Apparently the government is in talks with an international gaming company to build a 3000-4000 room multibillion casino resort. Sun, sandy beaches, proximity to US. This sounds like a no-brainer. (more…)
