Macao | Stanley Ho comments on expansion plans

Dr Ho did an interview with Macau Daily News and I thought there were two things worth mentioning.

Oceanus is cancelled.

“I Stanley Ho will not agree with the Oceanus project, I think too big, too much, we can not operate such a huge project involving so many factors. It may be a good idea from the start but it doesn’t work, I am giving up this project and I think the government is supporting me 100 percent.”

Even he doesnt know the status of the land he has in Cotai. (more…)

Cotai Strip®’s Four Seasons Macao opening in Q3 now

This will be the third hotel to open in the Cotai Strip® area of Macao. The first was the Grand Waldo Hotel Casino followed by the Venetian Macao last August. Four Seasons Macao will be on the small size with only 360 rooms.

Congratulations to MPEL’s Cotai, Macau City of Dreams. This should be nothing short of spectacular. The company released a statement saying, “Our dreams are taking shape. In approximately one year, City of Dreams will begin to welcome visitors from all over the world,” said Lawrence Ho, Co-Chairman and CEO of MPEL at the topping out ceremony. “Macau is transforming from a gaming-focused destination into a leisure hot spot. Crown Las Vegas may not get built

Just when his Crown Macau casino is coming good, James Packer’s US game plan has been dealt a dead hand. The Crown chairman had planned to build one of the world’s tallest buildings on an old waterworks site on Las Vegas’s famed ”Strip”.

But the site earmarked for the $US5 billion Las Vegas Towers resort project is now up for sale. For a $7.5 billion company, the looming loss of an option for another casino development is small beer, in fact - apart from the discomfort of a dud deal - it may be a blessing in disguise. Packer spent and borrowed big at the top of the market last year, and like many others on a debt-fuelled buying streak, now appears to be reconsidering his pace of expansion.

Sofitel Ponte 16 still waiting on license

Almost two months after its official opening, the inner-harbour Ponte 16 resort is still unable to offer guests a room for the night.
The development’s hotel does not have an operating license from the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) and is unable to say when one may be granted.
The 423 room Sofitel Macau, managed by the hospitality giant Accor which has over 3,800 hotels world-wide, currently displays a notice in its main lobby stating the “hotel is not open to the public”.
The license has been delayed by the sign-off the MGTO requires from the Lands, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) on the structure of the resort, said Ponte 16’s senior vice president of marketing and operations yesterday. (more…)
