Creative Gaming Solution, a subsidiary of the Mumbai-based Pan India Network Infravest Pvt Ltd (PINIPL), plans to launch and operate an offshore casino in Goa, by April 2008. The Maharaja Casino will be aboard a 70 m long, 25 million USD Panamanian craft.

The casino, which claims to be the largest in South Asia, will target foreigners, as well as clientele in the India-Kathmandu segment. “It will be the biggest offshore casino and will increase Goa’s appeal for tourists,” says Amar Sinha, Managing Director, PINIPL. According to Sinha, the offshore casino will help attract a different segment of travellers to Goa.

The ship will be anchored in the Mandovi River, Panaji. There will be two boats to transport customers to the casino. The casino will be housed in 22,000 sq ft, spread over four decks. 35 ‘no limits’ tables, with games such as Black Jack, American Roulette and Poker will be available. The vessel will have a cash chest of one million USD on board, at all times.

Amenities include a multi-cuisine restaurant, a sundeck, a live barbecue section and a bar, along with entertainment programmes. The casino will be open from six pm to six am for the first month, after which it will offer 24 hour services. Entry fees will depend on Goa’s tourist season and fluctuations.

PINIPL has paid the one-time deposit of Rs one million for five years, in order to run the casino. Sinha opines that the casino is expected to earn revenues of around Rs one billion.

Work on the Maharaja Casino is in progress. After approval from Director General of Shipping, the ship will move from the Victoria Docks in Mumbai to its permanent place in Goa, by the end of March.
