Sunrise Resort

The following is a news article describing a huge US $5 billion casino complex being planned by a very large US investment firm, Oaktree Capital, in Lien Chieu district, central Da Nang city Vietnam. The name of the hotel casino complex would be Sunrise Resort, according to local press.

Thanhniennews.com reported, “Oaktree had spent 90 days surveying the city’s Hoa Van Hamlet, and hoped to build seaside resorts on an area of 700 hectares.”

The article also say that Sunrise Resort, “would be 4,000 rooms, an entertainment area, yacht quay, golf course, helipad to transfer tourists, casino for foreign tourists and a cable car system connecting the top of the Hai Van mountain pass with the hamlet.”

Additionally, the article says that theChief of the city’s Party, Nguyen Ba Thanh, “hailed the US company’s plan and encouraged it to expand the construction of the resorts to more than 1,500 hectares and 15,000 rooms.”

This is not Oaktree’s first foray into the gaming business. An Oaktree affiliate also own part of the Cannery Casino Resorts company, which owns locals oriented casinos in Las Vegas and outside of Pittsburgh, PA. PBL, of Macau’s Melco-PBL, announced that they would be buying Cannery Casino Resorts sometime in 2008.
